About the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)
Medical education portal keeps medical providers informed
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) is a non-profit organization for medical educators, medical students and practicing physicians.
The US-Canadian industry association provides academic training and professional education programs designed for the continuous improvement of Americans' health via education, research and professional care.
MedEdPortal: Training and professional education
The AAMC's MedEdPortal, run in association with the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), is a publicly-accessible online portal for physicians and other interested parties. The plan is to upgrade the static information portal into an interactive, dynamic expert community for physicians. On offer will be networking, expert discussions, and training and professional education for physicians – all supported by Web 2.0 features.
Physicians' engagement in education and studies
The AAMC MedEdPortal provides teaching materials, studies, tutorials and a great deal of other kinds of content in the form of documents, videos, podcasts and tools. Members can upload materials to the platform, and these contributions are then rated by experts from the community. Three different quality marks are used to indicate the relevance and quality of the materials for an expert audience (peer review).
Content display is tailored to each user, with editorial and user-generated content being grouped together by subject. Comment functions, rating and recommendation tools motivate members to interact and contribute, as do microblogging and collaborative filtering features. CoreMedia's solution integrates digital asset management, the editing process and publication into one, unified platform.
