Christian, Solution Architect bei CoreMedia
Christian

Born 1974, works for CoreMedia as a Solution Architect.

What kind of education do you have?

I studied European Business – a degree similar to the German BWL qualification – although I specialized in information systems as my main course of study. After completing my degree I worked at the University for the Institute for Information Systems, gathering initial developer experience in the Java environment and starting work on my doctorate in information systems.

And how did you end up at CoreMedia?

Through reading Brand Eins [German business magazine]. In May 2005 I read the article “A Dwarf among Giants” and was immediately filled with enthusiasm for the company – without really knowing what CoreMedia actually produced. The subsequent round of interviews then confirmed my first impressions of CoreMedia from the magazine’s company portrait. Well – after that I just wanted to join the team.

How has your career progressed since joining CoreMedia?

I started off as a Technical Consultant. However, after experiencing the excitement involved in contact with clients and potential clients – which I was involved in right from the word go – I was offered the opportunity to become a Solution Architect. This is a position that involves me in the sales process with potential clients very early on, in order to talk to them about possible concepts and solutions. Ideally, I can then accompany the client right up until the project implementation stage.

What do you particularly like about CoreMedia?

I see it as a great advantage at CoreMedia that I am not limited to working in the area designated by my official job description. I want to be allowed to keep myself informed, help out where needed, and – above all – keep a sense of curiosity. That’s a lot for a company to take on for a start – but at CoreMedia, it’s actually encouraged.

Hauke, Program Manager bei CoreMedia
Hauke

Born in 1976, works for CoreMedia as a Program Manager.

What kind of education do you have?

I grew up in Hamburg and studied for four years in Dresden, as the Dresden College of Technology and Business. I graduated from Computer Science, majoring in media information technology.

And how did you end up at CoreMedia?

I started working while I was studying, as a developer intern at a company called Lava, a new-economy business that has since closed. This internship became freelance work, and Lava became iXL Germany. That's where I had my first permanent job as a software developer. After a while, iXL became Skillberry. I was working on a CMS project when I first had contact with CoreMedia products and the exceptional people working there. I was "borrowed" by CoreMedia to help with a Web project, and during that time, Skillberry filed for insolvency. Fortunately, CoreMedia welcomed me with open arms, offering me a job as either software developer or technical consultant. After initial hesitation, I chose technical consultant, because I was interested in the customer contact and project work of the job. Also, the opportunity for international travel was exciting – especially the chance to meet so many different people and companies. I haven't regretted my decision to this day. Today I work as a Senior Technical Consultant.

How has your career progressed since joining CoreMedia?

I work as a consultant in the service provision deparment of CoreMedia, called Professional Services. That means that I travel a lot, visit lots of companies and I have to be ready to offer good advice when it's needed. It's my job to solve our client's problems, and find the best possible way of meeting the client's needs. My duties range from technological presentation of products and solutions, to training, to programming and project management. When I'm on site at a client's or implementation partner's offices, I am the person responsible for all questions relating to CoreMedia (sometimes for many questions at the same time). I deal with troubleshooting, I lead programming teams and act as the liason between our clients and the CoreMedia product development team. While the project is running, I provide first-level support. And a project can run for just one day or for many months – sometimes even a year. I suppose my job demands an allround talent, someone who quickly finds his feet in a new environment. Also, the ability to maintain a strategic overview of the whole system is important, so one can understand it and can find solutions fast. These are things I'm good at, and I enjoy it immensely.

What do you particularly like about CoreMedia?

CoreMedia is a highly professional company, but it still has the human touch. The way people relate is extremely friendly; the "CoreMedia spirit" really does exist. Hierachies are flat, and it's very simple to get direct contact with any other employee in any department. You can just have a coffee or a beer in the chill-out room with a developer, or even with the CEO or CFO. And then of course there's the innovative technology, the excellent products and our clients – great companies from around the world. Knowing how to work with people and different cultures is incredibly interesting and demands a lot of sensitivity.
