Achieves cost savings of more than 30 percent and improves speed and flexibility
Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national rail transport corporation, has announced that it is implementing the CoreMedia Enterprise Content Management System for its Internet activities. The first result is the new corporate portal, www.db.de. This new site it aimed primarily at business partners and clients of Deutsche Bahn, journalist, investors, political opinion leaders and job applicants. Visitors to the site access in-depth information about the company, its services, special offers and social and cultural activities. The strategic goal of the new Deutsche Bahn site is to expand its e-commerce activities, establish new service avenues and establish a unified technical platform for its online activities, based on CoreMedia's proven system architecture. In addition to the new corporate portal at www.db.de, Deutsche Bahn maintains the highly popular travel portal, www.bahn.de, and the transport and logistics portal, www.stinnes.de. CoreMedia's Smart Content Technology will be applied across all corporate sites, replacing the Vignette system that is currently being used. The next stage in this ambitious project is the company's Intranet (Bahn-net), which will be relaunched on the basis of the CoreMedia system"The introduction of CoreMedia enables us to reduce our operating costs by more than 30%", said Jens Küpper, head of Deutsche Bahn's online activities. "As well as that, we're now able to present information faster than ever before. We have the perfect basis for the distribution of information over all communication channels - now and in the future." "By consolidating the corporation's site on the basis of Smart Content Technology, businesses can develop new portals faster and more flexibly," said Sören Stamer, founder and CEO of CoreMedia. "For companies like Deutsche Bahn, this means that information is delivered in a more timely and consistent way, while simultaneously making significant reductions in costs of operation and projects." CoreMedia's partner in the implementation of this large-scale project was IBM. Since the beginning of 2004, IBM and CoreMedia have operated a global partnership. The most important modules of the Smart Content Technology used by Deutsche Bahn is the WebEditor, a user-friendly tool for the effortless implementation of corporate information, and the new "Control Center", which presents key performance data for the entire system, enabling trouble-free supervision of the system's operation. This contributes to the high standards of security required by the Deutsche Bahn. The modern design of the corporate portal, www.db.de, and the broad range of information available, present the ideal starting point for online business processes. Divided into four theme-related sections within the overarching brand of "Die Bahn", the site presents a comprehensive spectrum of services of the Deutsche Bahn, while also supporting the brand's position as a leading international mobility and logistics service provider. The corporate portal was designed with careful attention to the requirements of people with disabilities and other special needs. By implementing the guidelines of the "World Wide Web Consortium" (W3C) and presenting a "barrier-free" interface, the site is accessible to all visitors, regardless of physical or cognitive disability.
