e-government: the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg manages its portal for citizens using CoreMedia

eGovernment: portal for citizens

With the internet solution for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg at www.hamburg.de, CoreMedia was able to realize a further successful project in the area of e-government. At www.fhh.hamburg.de the HanseaticCity provides its citizens comprehensive and up-to-date information on the Authorities, the Senate Office and the Department of Justice based on CoreMedia CMS.

Employees working for the authorities benefit alongside the citizens: since the introduction of the content management solution based on CoreMedia CMS, editorial content can be maintained directly in the system - technical knowledge such as HTML is no longer required when editing using the CoreMedia CMS. Around 150 employees working in the individual authorities of the HanseaticCity can now keep their specialist web pages up-to-date employing considerably fewer maintenance resources than were previously required. Furthermore, the interactive services can be continually extended to incorporate new content and services for Hamburgs citizens. The Internet solution of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg previously consisted of static HTML pages which necessitated high levels of management and maintenance resources to keep content up-to-date. As the CoreMedia CMS consistently separates content and layout the employees working for the city can update individual information as required quickly and simply. Thanks to the intelligent user management function, which controls access rights and publishing of texts, content produced by one department is also available to other departments. When content is edited the CoreMedia CMS simultaneously updates the data at all other locations on the site. The automatic categorization of all content and its central link to a thesaurus considerably simplifies the daily tasks of editors.

CoreMedia CMS has already been implemented successfully for the various theme portals at www.schleswig-holstein.de and www.hamburg.de for some time now. With the migration of content at fhh.hamburg.de to CoreMedia CMS the city of Hamburg was able to implement an efficient Internet concept which recognizes the needs of the citizens of Hamburg for up-to-date information about the authorities.

For Sören Stamer, CEO and co-founder of CoreMedia, the project illustrates the excellent suitability of the CoreMedia CMS for the specific challenges facing the realization of e-government solutions. "The open architecture of the solution from CoreMedia enables the quick and flexible integration of the authorities’ existing infrastructures and at the same time upholds the high demands on security and availability", explains Sören Stamer.
