The challenge: superior performance for high traffic portal

Bild.de (formerly Bild.t-online.de) is one of the most successful general interest portals with more than 14 million visits per month and more than 270 million page impressions (IVW November 2002). Millions of users expect to have constant fast and reliable access to the latest content, multimedia content and personalized content. To meet these requirements using a scalable Content Management System Bild.T-Online.de chose the proven technology of CoreMedia. The content infrastructure was completely rebuilt using CoreMedia CMS.

Thanks to the linear scalability of CoreMedia CMS Bild.de is always accessible even during periods with high volumes of site traffic. The open access allows Bild.de to respond to both market and company demands. A picture and video authorization policy as well as a personalization component have already been incorporated.

Dr. Georg Pagenstedt, an executive at Bild.T-Online.de AG, explains the decision to implement the CoreMedia CMS: "With the implementation of CoreMedia CMS and the expansion of our personalization platform we have found ourselves a flexible and future-oriented system. The CoreMedia CMS provides our fast growing user base with the latest content and consistently increased the efficiency of our production processes".

Sören Stamer, Chief Executive Officer and founder of CoreMedia, explains the importance of the Bild.de project for his company: "The Deutsche Presse-Agentur and the Axel Springer Verlag were customers right from the very beginning. The Bild.de project was a particular challenge for us: For the first time we could prove in direct comparison that we are a considerable step ahead of the international competition regarding technical development - and at the same time faster and more reliable".

The realization partners for the relaunch of the Content Management System were T-Online and a development team from SD&M and ASMediaSystems, a business section of the Axel Springer Verlag. In collaboration with the partners Bild.de, lead by Project Manager Stefan Schenk, developed an ASP platform on which other portals and objects could also be operated.
