Eric Schwarzkopf talks about applying to CoreMedia

Open and interested

“So you’d like to apply to CoreMedia? Well, you’ve probably gained your first impressions of the company from the website. Your impression is an accurate one, since CoreMedia seems to be really very open, trying hard to ensure the best possible working conditions while actively promoting the strengths and interests of its members of staff. Be prepared for the fact that Ms. Kleine-Pollmann (HR Manager at CoreMedia) will contact you very soon after sending in your application. The goal of this initial call is to find out whether a personal job interview is in the interest of both parties concerned. You should and must use this opportunity to ask any questions you need to, since the matter is of course one of importance.”

Interview as equals

“One thing that struck me as very positive – both in the initial and following interviews – was that one was not treated as one of many applicants that were being tested on their abilities. It was much more the case that one negotiated as an equal, with both parties attempting to establish whether a partnership would be mutually beneficial. The attention paid to talking about subjects that are not immediately relevant to a possible employment makes for a relaxed atmosphere – as does the feeling that one is sitting around the table with people who share common interests. The second interview took place a few days later. At the end of this second visit I was given the chance to sit down with a couple of members of staff for a coffee and talk about a typical day at work at CoreMedia. This discussion increased my positive impression of CoreMedia still further and gave a boost to my decision to accept CoreMedia’s offer of employment."

Rapid feedback

“The fact that CoreMedia gives rapid feedback on the results of interviews is a positive benefit. I never had to wait for longer than one working day for a reply, which not only made it easier for me to plan my job hunting, but also shortened the time that I was left waiting for confirmations one way or the other. Do I then have nothing negative to say about CoreMedia? Well, yes, there was one thing that I did wonder about – although I’m not sure an applicant would see it in a negative light. Since I had applied as a Software Engineer, I was rather expecting that my technical abilities would be stringently assessed via a sample software task. Apparently not. However, since the quality of CoreMedia products remains high, the selection process seems to somehow work without setting applicants tasks."

Eric Schwarzkopf is working as a Software Engineer at CoreMedia since April, 2008.
