RRD, CoreMedia launch Simulcrypt Headend integration

RRD, CoreMedia launch Simulcrypt Headend integration featuring 18Crypt, OMA BCAST Smartcard Profile and OSF Conditional Access for Mobile Television at NAB2007

Combining all open standard and traditional Conditional Access Systems in one Mobile TV headend for broadest possible device support

LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER / BOOTH C7824— (April 19, 2007) — RRD, having rolled out and operating the worldwide first commercial DVB-H service, announced at NAB2007 in Las Vegas the immediate availability of an extended headend supporting simultaneously all major content security systems. The solution utilizes the Simulcrypt standard to use a single scrambled TV signal for different access control systems in parallel. This enables the most efficient usage of DVB-H bandwidth.

Premiering at the NAB, RRD integrates, in addition to traditional proprietary CA technologies, all open standard systems including 18 Crypt, OMA BCAST Smartcard Profile and OMA BCAST DRM Profile provided by CoreMedia. Having all CA technologies available simultaneously ensures broadest device support.

RRD and CoreMedia are the first to show all existing security profiles based on open standards working in an end-to-end system.

“RRD has proved once again its leadership in bringing early stage standards to Mobile TV market. The support of 6 different security systems in the same channel, demonstrates the effectiveness of the RRD Simulcrypt solution. CoreMedia is the first to deliver carrier grade open security standards and we are looking to enhance our cooperation for further developments”, Alfeo Pareschi, RRD business Development Director.

“CoreMedia believes in open standards for the Mobile TV market as they enable interoperability, prevent market fragmentation and enable vendor independent device integration. We are excited to provide RRD with our Mobile TV Platform which has the most advanced support and proven interoperability for open standards based Mobile TV access control”, Willms Buhse, Executive Director, CoreMedia.

The new Simulcrypt headend integration is demonstrated at the NAB2007 at the RRD stand, booth C7824.
