3GSM: bmcoforum members demonstrate DVB-H/IPDC service purchase and protection interoperability and commence new work items on OMA BCAST interoperability

Berlin, February 08, 2007 – As a next step towards commercial mobile TV business models, at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona bmcoforum members showcase DVB-H/IPDC Service Purchase and Protection (SPP) interoperability, both for Open Security Framework and for 18Crypt system technologies.

Broadcast Mobile Convergence Forum (bmcoforum), the world leading Mobile TV association is committed to the development of interoperability in a multi-platform/multi-terminal vendor environment. In the past this has been demonstrated at the DVB-H bearer as well as at the service guide level allowing free-to-air service provision. The consequent next step, to be demonstrated at 3GSM World Congress is interoperability at DVB-H/IPDC service purchase and protection level, allowing service and content protection with different commercial business models.

DVB-H/IPDC standards include two different SPP profiles, named Open Security Framework and the 18Crypt. At 3GSM World Congress bmcoforum members will demonstrate live multi-platform/multi-terminal interoperability of different vendors for both profiles.

In the Open Security Framework showcase DVB-H/IPDC multiplexes transport channels simulcrypted by CAS of Irdeto and NDS, a single ESG, joint free-to-air channels to terminals of different vendors. Platforms of this showcase are provided by Thomson and RRD.

In the 18Crypt showcase IPsec encrypted channels, free-to air channels and a single ESG, can be received by terminals provided by Nokia and NXP Semiconductors. The platform vendors present are Cardinal/Safenet, CoreMedia and Nokia.

In addition to the service purchase and protection showcases at the bmcoforum booth F49 in Hall 2 Level 1 you can witness live mobile broadcast demonstrations but also consider systems and components of Alcatel-Lucent, Expway, Packet Video, Penthera, SIDSA, Siemens and Sony.

bmcoforum further extends its interoperability, implementation and testing activities by confirming its intention to commence its work to support OMA BCAST specifications when available.
